The Elementary Education – English as a Second Language Emphasis at University of Arizona incorporates field experiences in all semesters culminating in student teaching. Graduates understand how culturally and linguistically diverse children learn and apply those understandings to facilitate meaningful, rigorous, content-rich learning experiences for all students through student-centered and inquiry-based learning opportunities.
The Program emphasizes classroom practices across and within content areas that include lesson planning, assessment, and differentiation of instruction. Graduates learn teaching practices that support equitable and socially just learning opportunities, fostering productive collaborations in the classroom, with families and school communities.
