Students may be enrolled in MA programs or be working professionals seeking to enhance their understanding of feminist theory and feminist social movements and other aspects of gender and women’s studies relevant to their interests. (Non-GWS PhD students may take the Certificate but are encouraged to enroll in the GWS PhD Minor and include GWS faculty, content and approaches in their Comprehensive Exams and Dissertation.
Gender and Women’s Studies
The Gender and Women’s Studies (GWS) Department at the University of Arizona stands at the cutting edge of interdisciplinary feminist research and curriculum. The Department was founded in 1975 and gained full departmental status in 1997.
It offers BA, MA/JD, and PhD degree programs, and its renowned faculty – composed of 13 core faculty and over 60 affiliates – work in a wide range of areas including:
